So be honest…are you feeling stressed this week?
Turn on the television or radio or log onto to social media during December and you and your children are likely to be bombarded with ads promoting the biggest and best toys of the holiday season.
Between shopping for the holidays, attending holiday parties and school concerts are you running from place to place, night after night without giving any thought to the true meaning of the holiday season?
Have you been able to take a step back and enjoy the season? If not there is still time to slow down and enjoy the season, and instill in our children the real meaning of the Holidays.
Ways to Slow Down and Enjoy the Holiday’s
- Participate in your church’s religious services and teach your children the real reason for the Holiday season.
- Take time to do acts of service for others~This can be as simple as having a holiday party every year and asking for food pantry donations or taking some time out of your families busy schedule to donate your time to a local charitable organization or a holiday meal to a local family.
- Instill a sense of tradition in your family that centers around the holiday~for instance, in my family we have the tradition that every year the kids get a new ornament from daddy so that when they grow up and have trees of their own they can decorate their tree with their own special ornaments from their childhood. We also do multiple advent calendars so that we are discussing Advent throughout the season.
- Schedule some quiet time with your kids~turn off the tv, radio and computer and spend time baking cookies, decorating your Christmas tree or just reading a favorite holiday classic. We also love to drive around and look at local light displays.
I hope you have a very blessed Holiday Season. I hope that you are able to slow down, bake cookies with your kids and snuggle on the couch.
