Bedtime can be a crazy time for any family, especially when your kids are younger– trust me I know! When you have little kids and busy schedules it can sometimes be a struggle to get kids to bed on time, especially if the kids are fighting you about going to bed. All you want to do is get the kids in bed so you can relax and unwind. On crazy nights, while it can be tempting to skip brushing your kids teeth before they head to bed, it is important to maintain good dental health each and every day. Without regular cleanings, bacteria built up in your mouth can lead to decay, cavities, and eventually tooth loss!
Thankfully, with a good dental routine you can prevent many of the issues that crop up and give your kids a beautiful smile. Tips for a Beautiful Smile
Have your kids brush their teeth at least 2x a day–This can be done easily by setting up a home dental center. For my kids, we bought them each a small carrier with a handle and filled it with dental tools necessary for proper dental health like toothpaste, a soft toothbrush, mouthwash and dental flossers. Eat a healthy diet- eat a healthy diet of fruits, vegetables and whole grains will contribute to your children’s overall health, including their teeth and gums. Make sure they are getting the proper amount of vitamins and minerals, especially when they are young and tooth formation is occurring.
Avoid sugary food and drinks–sugary foods and drinks contribute to tooth decay so it is best to avoid them. If your kids do end up eating or drinking sugary treats then have them brush and floss as soon as possible.
Use proper precautions when playing sports–make sure your kids are using proper mouth guards when playing sports like baseball, basketball, hockey etc. to minimize damage to teeth.
Visit the dentist–Regular visits to the dentist are essential to not only prevent dental problems, but also catch any problems that do exist before they start causing problems.
Think you don’t have the money to visit the dentist? Then look into affordable dental insurance plans for individuals and families. Having dental insurance is important for families, especially when your kids are young. I have five kids and my oldest daughter just recently got braces. I know firsthand how expensive dental work can be and thankfully, we have dental insurance to help minimize the cost.
Did you know that Guardian Dental plans can be purchased individually at any time throughout the year?
