Testing Your Home’s Energy Efficiency
BlindSpotz is a completely new way to think about home efficiency testing since you do it yourself, on your own time time and the results are simple and obvious.
I live in an 100+ year old house and while charming it does have it’s challenges. Over the past 10 years of living here I have tried to make updates to the home that both look good and improve the energy efficiency of the home. A few years ago I have a home energy audit done and the technician who came out was very through and make suggestions as to ways we can tighten up our home in terms of reducing energy loss.
Some of those suggestions were big ones, like replacing our doors and our old single pane windows with new energy efficient ones. Over the years we have made changes here and there but I am trying to tweak and update and make changes to increase effiency and reduce our energy bills.
One simple way I have done this is to build off of what our home energy audit suggested as well as find and inexpensive ways to test like using BlindSpotz, the DIY Cold Sensor as a solution for testing cold areas in your home. That way I can see if the changes that we are doing are making a difference.
How does BlindSpotz work?
The temperature is recorded when the colorbar is activated. As more colors appear, the bigger the cold issue you have. When you see 50˚ F or 55˚ F on your BlindSpotz™ sensor, you have a cold problem that needs to be fixed.
Snap a photo of your sensor and send the pictures to fixthecold@blindspotz.com and receive a variety of solutions to fix your energy problems as well as a coupon at participating retailers and contractors. It’s that simple to use!

Even though I am pretty sure of where the cold comes in in our house, I really would love to try these to find the hidden ones!
I hope to get the window, door better for saving the energy better in winter with the help of this senser
We have a couple of cold spots in our house and this will help to get that fixed.
I would find all the cold spots in Winter and hot spots in Summer
My bedroom gets so cold. I’d love to see what other rooms are not getting heated correctly.
to install insulated windows
We are(hopefully) going to building a new home in the next year. i think this would be great to find any cold spots.
It would make it so much more energy efficient as I could find out exactly where we are losing our heat and air.
I have a pretty good idea both of where the cold spots are and some sense of what has to be done to fix them, but this would be an excellent way to demonstrate to some other family members WHY I feel the fixes need to be done.
