As a mom of 5 raising my kids in the digital world it is a fine line to walk between allowing my kids access to digital technology but still keeping them safe. As a blogger, I have to be somewhat transparent with my readers but I want to protect my kids at the same time. My kids are still younger and not interested in social media accounts of their own yet but they do, especially my older ones, have access to digital mediums such as video streaming and games.
All of our children’s online activities are monitored by my husband and I however, and we are careful with what we post on social media as well. Just like we teach our kids to check both ways before they cross the street or we teach them the importance of not talking to strangers, we need to make sure that in this digital age we are careful to teach our children proper safety precautions in their online activities as well.
I was thrilled to hear that the National PTA has teamed up with Lifelock to help parents teach their kids about how they can #ShareAwesome while still being safe online. It’s all about having a happy, healthy lifestyle for you and your family!
To encourage all of you to #ShareAwesome, National PTA and Lifelock encourage all of you to snap a photo of an awesome moment in your day and share it on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram with the #ShareAwesome hashtag! Students who enter the #ShareAwesome contest between September 15 – November 30, 2014 will have a chance to win fantastic prizes, including tablets and a $2,500 scholarship! Visit ShareAwesomeNow.org to learn more.
Good luck and I can’t wait to hear about all the ways you #ShareAwesome!
