Child Safety Passenger Week is September 15-21 and that is a perfect time to ensure that you are using both the proper child restraint system and to make sure your car set is properly installed. Even though summer travel season might be over that doesn’t mean you are spending any less time in the car. Between dropping your kids off at school, running errands and evening activities, families are spending more and more time in the car and that means you must do even more to keep the little ones in your life both happy and safe.
According to SafeKids.org, correctly used child safety seats can reduce the risk of death by as much as 71 percent and since road injuries are the leading cause of preventable deaths and injuries to children in the United States, car seat safety should be a major concern of all parents. Most of our local State Police Barracks offer Car Seat Safety Checks by appointment so click here for a listing of participating stations. There will also be a Car Seat Safety Check at McDade Park on Thursday, September 19th from 10-1 p.m. Call (570) 347-2358 for more information.

Got older kids? Did you know that the American Academy of Pediatrics state that children should remain in a booster seat until they have reached 4’9” in height, which will typically be between ages 8 and 12. With its cool colors and design the RightFit Booster Car Seat is great option for parents of older kids.
The RightFit Booster Car offers a 2-in-1 design that allows kids to transition from a high-back booster seat to a no-back booster seat and it has really cool activity lights installed in this seat, which allow your child to read, color, or play video games on those overnight trips without disturbing other riders with the overhead lights.
Finally, what is a road trip without without some great reading materials for the kids in your life? My older kids especially like books like TIME For Kids Big Book of Where, where each page answers a new question such as: Where is the tallest mountain?Where did the Olympics begin?Where is the Petrified Forest? Because each page is full of color photos and a new topic it is perfect for quick trips in the car. Grab some individually packaged snacks from Mainesource and you are good to go!
Disclosure: I was given a copy of the Big Book of Where and the car seats shown above for review purposes. My opinions are 100% my own.
