Today at 2 p.m. the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will conduct the first nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System.
According to PA Newswire: Pennsylvania’s radio, television and cable stations will participate by interrupting regularly scheduled programming with an Emergency Alert System test announcement lasting approximately 30 seconds.
“This event is significant because although we do tests at the local and state level on a weekly and monthly basis, the system has never been tested nationally,” said Glenn Cannon, director of the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency. “We need to do this so that we are better prepared, should we need to notify a large portion of the nation.”
