Now that Thanksgiving is over and many of us have started our holiday shopping, it is time to turn our attention to Christmas. We will be busy the next few weeks baking and cooking and cleaning and trying to create perfect holiday memories for our kids. I will be busy doing that as well.
My husband and I feel it is important to keep in mind and teach our children the true meaning of Christmas. Christmas is more than just toys and presents and Santa (although that is all fun!), it is more importantly the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ.
That is why I was so excited when I was given the chance to review the softcover book Santa’s Secret Elf. This sweet book is about Merryam, Santa’s elf whose job it is to pray for children whose wishes aren’t for material items but for those that Santa can’t fulfill, like making family and friends healthy, bringing loved ones home from far away places and more. I also received the Countdown to Christmas calendar, which is to remind us about the true reason of the season as we pray for others and remember what we are thankful and grateful for.
To get the most out of the countdown calendar, have family and friends write a message on a piece of paper and place it in the pocket of each day. On Christmas Eve collect them and read them together. Place them in a dated envelope or scrapbook to cherish the memories of the season.
This is a great way to not only countdown to the excitement of Christmas but also to remember to gather together and pray for those who need it.
