When kids are little, sometimes it can seem like the holidays fly by in a blur. As parents sometimes it seems like we are just trying to survive. As my kids get older, however, I find myself thinking more and more about the traditions we follow and the importance of making fun family memories. For our family, those traditions and memories include our annual visit to Hershey, PA.
When my four oldest kids were little, we lived in Hershey and often visited the park at Christmastime and we have made it a priority to go back every year since we moved away. It has become our favorite holiday tradition and it is a night away to which we all look forward. For me, it is truly the kickoff of the holiday season.
Hershey has an outstanding attention to detail and everywhere you turn in the park you see twinkling lights, hear Christmas carols and everything is clean and fresh. This year we went on a Monday night so there were no crowds at all, we were walking right up and getting on the rides.
At the main gate of Hershey Park despite the rain. Thankfully, the rain stopped after about 15 minutes and we had a great time. There was hardly anybody there, I think the rain scared people away.
Visiting with Kiss in Hersheypark!

Finally, we of course had to head to Sweet Lights to check out the almost 600 illuminated displays spread out over nearly two miles. This is always a highlight for us as we listen to Christmas songs, eat kettle corn and enjoy the show.
As far as lodging, this year we decided to stay at the Hershey Lodge, which is very family friendly. In the past, we have stayed at both the Lodge and the Hotel Hershey, and both of them provide world class accommodations and you really can’t go wrong with either choice.
The main fireplace in the lodge is a great place to relax and drink hot chocolate.
The Lodge features some great restaurants, including the Bears Den (GREAT Philly Cheesesteaks!) where were had a great dinner before we headed to the park and I snapped some photos of my kids–I love moments like this!
Aren’t they cute? This is what family time is for me, time to just relax and reconnect. That is what our trips to Hershey do for us.
Accommodations at the Hershey Lodge are luxurious yet comfortable and perfect for families, plus you get great Cocoa Infused lotion, shampoo and conditioner.
There is still time to plan your holiday trip to Christmas in Hershey, make sure to check out the Hershey website for details.
