The holiday season is almost over and many of us overindulged on holiday treats. It is now time to turn out attention to the New Year and our resolutions to lose weight and get healthy!
I admit, I don’t have time to join a gym. I have 5 kids, a husband who works crazy hours and multiple sports schedules to juggle. Are you like me in that you don’t have time to join a gym? Then make sure to exercise at home!
I love exercising at home. I can get up earlier than my kids or exercise while the baby is napping all from my living room. And with the new trend in workout videos being short, intense workouts you really have no excuses for not getting in your workout each day.
I am very excited about the recent release of P90X3 from Tony Horton. Many of you are familiar with P90X from television informational but one of the complaints with it is that each workout is just too long–well not more! P90X3 is 16 workouts each only 30 minutes long….yes you read that right, 30 minutes long.
Some of my other favorite workouts include:
–FocusT25 with Shaun T of Insanity fame. FocusT25 is 25 minutes, 5 days a week for 10 weeks. It is broken up into 2 five week segments, Alpha and Beta. The program also includes an eating guide, which looks very easy to follow.
—30 Day Shred with Jillian Michaels The 30 Day Shred features three 20-minute workouts, each of which features, in rapid succession, short bursts of strength, cardio, and abs, and a cool-down. Sound easy? Think again. Even the beginner-level workout will have users’ heart rates up. Michaels allows no resting between each short burst of exercise, which is part of why the results happen so quickly. The transitions between strength, which can feature classic moves like pushups or reps with small weights, and cardio, and then between cardio and abs, are a mere second or two.
Finally once the weather starts to warm up I love using the Couch-to-5K App on my phone. Spend just 20 to 30 minutes, three times a week, for nine weeks, and you’ll be ready to finish your first 5K (3.1-mile) race! This app tells you when to run and when to walk and gradually increases your running time and decreases your walking time, helping you properly train for a 5k.
Fnally, some cool gadgets make workout out fun!
Fitbit Flex During the day, it tracks steps, distance, and calories burned. At night, it tracks your sleep quality and wakes you silently in the morning. You can sync it to both your computer and your wireless device so you can track your step goals, track your sleep and wake habits, track your food intake and more.
