I have always made homemade meatballs but I found a recipe in Savory Magazine recently in their Savory Sunday section, adapted it to my family’s tastes and my son swore they are the best meatballs he has ever eaten! Wondering how to make homemade meatballs? Keep reading and find out!
What makes these meatballs a great dinnertime solution is the fact that you can make everything the morning of (or even the night before!) and then just pop it into the oven and bake for 30 minutes and you have a fresh, homemade meal on the table in minutes. Serve with some crusty bread and a salad and you have a great, homemade meal in no time! Once you learn how easy it is to make homemade meatballs you will never go back to frozen again!
Homemade Meatball Recipe
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 large egg
- ¼ cup grated parmesan cheese
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- ½ cup breadcrumbs
- 1 tsp oil olive
- 28oz can peeled tomatoes
- 1 tbsp Italian seasoning
- One cup water
- A single bay leaf
- Preheat oven to 425 degree. Mix together ground beef, egg, parmesan cheese, garlic powder and breadcrumbs and form into 1 inch balls. Bake at 425 degrees for20 minutes or cooked through, stirring often.
- Heat oil in ovenproof pan. Add peeled tomatoes, Italian seasoning, bay leaf, water and salt and bring to a boil. Allow to simmer for 15 minutes. Add meatballs to sauce and boil gently for 10 minutes.
- Note: At this point you can freeze or refrigerate your meatballs to finish later or proceed to the next step.
- Place meatballs and sauce into oven and bake at 375 degrees for 25 minutes, spooning sauce over meatballs often.
