Like many of you I have made the resolution this year to get rid of this baby weight once and for all and to change my eating and exercising habits for the better. However, I’m human and while I tend to do really well during the week I tend to struggle on the weekends. I asked Judy Zavislak, an Independant Beach Body Coach, to write a few guest posts for us to keep us motivated in the New Year. Here is the first one, enjoy!
Are you ready to QUIT with your New Year’s Resolution to Lose Weight?
Don’t feel bad! You aren’t alone! I think that 80% of the population is probably in the same place right now! But before you throw all of your dreams of looking great by summer out the window, let me ask you some questions:
1) How badly do you want to change? What are the consequences of living with your current lifestyle? Are you feeling confident in your skin now? How will you look and feel this summer? Fast forward a little more…what diseases might you develop if you keep on living the way you do right now? Will you be here to see your daughter walk down the aisle at her wedding? Will you see your grandchildren being born? When you are 80 years old, will you be active and living a happy life?
Making a decision to lose weight has to be about MORE than “Yeah…I’d sure like to lose a few pounds”. If that’s all the passion you can muster, then you might as well quit now because that isn’t going to keep you going when it gets rough…and it WILL get rough!
2) Pick a mantra! Okay, you got to number 2, so you must really want CHANGE! Good! Have you ever had a “mantra”? You know…something that you say over and over to yourself…especially when the going gets rough? I’ll let you borrow mine. I’ve decided that I REALLY want change in my fitness level this year, and I know that is going to require a lot of challenging work in my exercise AND in the kitchen!
So, here’s my mantra:
If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you!
Oh my gosh! When I’m working out and it gets really hard…I’m whispering this to myself under my breath…over and over again. I know it sounds crazy, but it works for me, and I have a hunch it will work for you…IF you really want CHANGE!
3) Find a support group. I have a private group that I run on Facebook for women who are looking to live a healthier lifestyle. It’s a place they go daily to check in with how they are doing. They also do a small daily assignment. My goal with the assignments is to educate them about food, exercise, and healthy habits, but it’s also about changing their MINDSET about their choices.
Some of them have made INCREDIBLE changes! And I have to say…I’ve made some mindset changes right along with them! I also provide some fun stuff like small prizes and a bigger prize at the end of each month. We start new again at the beginning of every month, so it’s like New Year’s 12 times a year! We think about our goals for the month, and then make some decisions on how we are going to make them happen! We spend the rest of the month taking action, but we revisit our goals mid-month too…just to see how we are doing!
For you, this group can be a few of your good friends who have similar goals, but just make sure that you all have similar committment levels! If you can’t find a good support group, you are welcome to ask me about mine!
If you do JUST those three things, I can promise you that you WILL achieve that weight loss this year, and you’ll be enjoying the results come summer!
