Winter is here and the best way to warm up after a fun day of sledding is a steamy cup of hot chocolate!
I will admit that for years I bought powered hot chocolate, not realizing just how yummy and easy homemade hot chocolate really is. Guess what? No more!!
This recipe is super easy, super creamy and delicious! Here is my kid friendly recipe for Homemade Hot Chocolate! Add a squirt of Hershey’s Chocolate syrup or drop in some chocolate chips, top with some homemade whip cream and you have a decadent treat that you and your kids will love!
- ½ cup sugar
- ¼ cup Hershey's Cocoa
- Dash salt
- ⅓ cup hot water
- 4 cups milk
- ¾ tsp vanilla or peppermint extract
- Mix sugar, cocoa and salt in a pan, add water. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stir for 2 minutes. Stir in milk and warm (Do Not Boil), remove from heat and add vanilla or peppermint extract. Add marshmallows and enjoy!

I am not a fan of hot chocolate, but the addition of peppermint extract makes this recipe tempting. Mint and chocolate…What’s not to like?
