Last year I got a new SUV and I LOVE it! I love the way it drives, I love the way my entire crew fits in it and yes, with 5 kids fitting into a car is a concern! I swore when I got it that no one would ever eat in in, leave toys in it and that I would get the oil changed faithfully. Well those high hopes have been dashed quickly and I have been driving around in my car for the past few months ignoring the bright orange light reminding me that I was overdue for an oil change.
Why you ask? Well, with my husband’s busy work schedule and our kids sports schedules we could never find a time where it was convenient for us to leave my car at the dealership all day to have the oil changed. And yes, I know I could sit and wait for it to be done but really, who wants to sit in the small, cramped waiting room at the car place with 5 little kids? NOT ME!
Last week I loaded the kids in the car for a day full of errands and I headed to Walmart to get my oil changed. I truthfully must be living under a rock because I had NO IDEA that Walmart did oil changes using Pennzoil! Well I am glad I know now because I was able to get my oil changed and get my errands done all at the same time!
Did you know that Pennzoil comes in three different varieties? All Pennzoil products help clean out sludge lesser oils leave behind, are designed for complete protection and will allow you to drive an extra of 550 miles per year vs. a dirty engine and no other motor oil provides better protection from friction.
However, depending on your car and how many miles you have some varieties of Pennzoil are better for your car and your needs. The varieties available are:
- Conventional Motor Oil – A traditional oil base, fortified with Active Cleaning Agents™ to continuously prevent dirt and contaminants from creating performance-robbing deposits.
- High Mileage Vehicle – Helps to reduce leaks and oil consumption in worn or higher mileage engines. It’s a motor oil that is specifically designed for new or late model vehicles with over 75,000 miles, to help keep the engines running clean and going strong for a long time.
- Platinum (synthetic motor oil) – Best cleanliness and protection in the Pennzoil line-up. With PurePlus™ Technology, the Platinum® motor oil is proven to keep pistons up to 40% cleaner than the toughest industry standard. PurePlus™ Technology is a revolutionary process that converts natural gas into a 99.5% pure base oil.
I had no clue what oil was best for my car so I chatted with the service technician when dropping off my car and we decided to go with the Conventional Motor Oil since my car is only a year old and doesn’t have that many miles.
After chatting, they told me my car would take about an hour to be ready so I headed into the store to do my shopping.
Here is a little tip for you…if you take your slip that they give you to any of the price scanners in the store and scan your slip it will tell you if your car is ready–just in case you miss the announcement like I did…I mean who can hear over the talking of 5 kids??
While waiting for the car to be finished we did our grocery shopping and got our diapers and wipes for the week. My kids also had some Christmas money burning a hole in their pockets so we spent quite a bit of time in the toy aisle while they each picked out something to buy.
We spent quite a bit of time “admiring” this kitchen set but thankfully they found other things to spend their money on!
I’m happy to say that in a little more than an hour I was able to get my oil changed and do my grocery shopping for the week, all without having to sit and wait for my car to be finished. That made me AND my kids happy!
Don’t you just LOVE that outfit? She insisted on dressing herself and sometimes it is just not worth the battle!

Ooooh, great tip on Ibotta. I use that app but didn’t see the deal. Dave changes the car’s oil most times and this makes it more affordable.
mgalko says
Yes, it is a good deal for people who change their own oil. Thanks for stopping by!

I needed an oil change 1000 miles ago, but the thought of sitting in a waiting room with 3 kids (including a baby and toddler) is too much for me to handle. I will need to head to Walmart soon!
mgalko says
I know that feeling of dread!! Walmart made it so easy for me, I could just get everything done in one place!

I can always spend time at Walmart. It beats sitting at the dealer for an hour or two.
mgalko says
Exactly! Get the oil changed AND get your other errands done….there is no drawback!

My husband handles the oil changes. Yeah, I know. I’m one of those. Haha. But this is great info, thanks!

Sounds like a great idea! Take care of two things at the same time! I need an oil change, I may need to do this.

Luckily my husband is handy and we have a garage so he can work on our cars at home. But if I needed to get it changed this would definitely be the way to go!

I can’t imagine the thought of sitting in a waiting room with 5 kids while your car gets an oil change! Good thing Walmart is there so you can do your weekly shopping at the same time. Talk about a win-win! #client
