Check out my easy Tips for Drinking More Water and drink your way to better health!
Summer is here and that means warm temperatures and outdoor activities. We all know that drinking water is important for your overall health, after all more than 60% of our bodies are water. but it can be hard to get in the recommended amount of water every day. And when it is hot? You need even more water– did you know that by the time you feel thirsty you are already on your way to dehydration?
I’m going to be honest here, I hate drinking water….I am a sweet tea kinda girl and was dreading drinking the recommended amount of water but I have come up with some tips to get my daily water allowance in.
Remember, these are just my tips and what I am doing myself. If you have any questions please consult your doctor.
Tips for Drinking More Water
Drink a glass of water as soon as you get out of bed. This part is easy (kinda) for me. I take thyroid medication and it has to be taken on an empty stomach so I get out of bed and head to the kitchen. Since I need water to take my medication I just make sure to drink a full 8 oz.
Drink your water room temperature. I have sensitive teeth so I hate that feeling of cold water hitting my teeth. I feel it is easier for me to chug down my water when it is room temperature.
Always have a glass already full. I carry my water glass around with me wherever I go in the house. Whether I am at my desk, in my kitchen, sitting at the school table I always have a glass close by. That way I can just sip as I do my work.
Add some lemon or cucumber slices to it. On those days where I just CAN NOT drink another sip of water I cut up some lemons or cucumbers and add them to my water. It adds just enough flavor to keep me happy.
Drink it out of a portable plastic tumbler like this tumbler with straw. If you have a glass that you can easily take with you when you are on the go you are more likely to drink from it. That way I can just take my water with me when I am running errands or heading to practice with the kids. Plus it is reusable so it is better for the enviroment.
Always drink a glass of water before dinner. This helps me feel full and prevents me from being too hungry when I sit down to eat.
Drink a glass of water after dinner. I always try to get a glass of water in before bedtime and I find that if I do it while I am cleaning up after dinner then I don’t have to get up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night.
Stick with it! I find that the first few days of drinking water are tough to get used to but after a few days it is no longer a big deal. In fact, it is amazing to me how quickly I adapt to water and how after I drink water other drinks(like sweet tea) start to taste bad–I guess my tastebuds really do adjust!

Love these tips! I really need to drink more water daily. Visiting from http://www.andieconn.com (:
Thanks so much for stopping by!
Very timely advice, this was one of my New Years resolutions! I’m doing ok but it’s easy to let things slide after a week or two. Thanks for the hints and motivation!
It gets much easier after a few days so keep it up!
Drinking more water is good, but it is critical that the water be tested this includes city and well water. For example about 50% of private wells in PA may produce water that could make you sick. Nice blog – love to exchange links.
I am actually on a well and I have had my water tested. Thanks for stopping by!
I definitely need to drink more water, but I seriously struggle with this. When I was growing up, tap water made me sick to my stomach (my mom thought it was the chlorine), so there is a mental barrier there that I’m working on breaking through.
Thanks for the tips. I’ve tried some with no success, but I think Tip #3 is going to be the key. Someone else told me recently that you should make your desired path the path of least resistance. So having a glass of water already there, will be easier than going to look for something more tasty to drink.
I find it hard to stick with it, LOL! I’m currently drinking lemonade with stevia. But I think I should start drinking just water, and maybe with slices of lemon, like you said.
It gets easier after a few days…just keep drinking the water and eventually you like it! Thanks for stopping by!
I struggle with this often. I try and carry around a big refillable tumbler.
These are wonderful tips! I drink a glass of water first thing in the morning too.
I also find that drinking through a straw makes me drink my water faster/more frequently.

Wishing you a lovely day.

I have been working on this too. It really does help to have a cup that is easy to take with you wherever you go. The ones I use have marks for the ounces. That really helps me keep track a lot better.
I really need to drink more water. I have a huge water bottle that I take to work with me, and usually fill it with iced tea. I need to work on making healthier choices!
Start filling it with Water!! 🙂
Love these ideas! So important to drink plenty of water.
Great tips, Megan! I always drink a glass of water when I get up. I’ve heard adding lemon juice to the first glass for the day helps a lot.
